Larry Pope

Larry Pope, the fifth child of Marshal and Balique Pope, lived in the shadow of his four older sisters all through grammar and high school. He disliked physical activity and was often thought of as a sickly child, though he was actually quite immune from the typical colds and flu of his siblings. He remained at odds with his family until he got into his 1969 Volvo 130 sedan and drove from his boyhood home in Maryland to Northern California where he has lived for the past six years.

Answering an ad for help at the local public library, Larry started as a stock boy and quickly took over when Winfred, the elderly librarian who had practically erected the building from the ground up, died suddenly of a massive coronary. Larry immediately made the space his own, preferring to keep the number of employees to a minimum while he observes the slow and silent book stacks from his glass office.
