Alba Jenkins

 

A middle aged retiree, Alba was married for five years to an investment broker who ate, drank, and smoked himself to an early grave. He left her with a sizable investment portfolio, enough money for some, a source of considerable nervousness for Alba who rarely reads her quarterly statements. Alba is a nail art technician for an upscale salon where she complains about her workload but revels in having a captive audience for her thoughts and opinions on such diverse topics as politics, world events, and General Hospital.

Alba is the oldest of three daughters. Her mother and father were cold and distant parents, fostering a competitive nature between the sisters for their affection. She shared a room with her sisters, always delineating her space from theirs, and often revealed a possessiveness that made her unpopular in school. Her sisters are married and divorced, world travelers, never on one continent for longer than a year. They communicate the old fashion way, through holiday cards and Christmas letters. Alba is possessive of Henry. She speaks her mind and offers her opinions without hesitation. She prefers the word companion to boyfriend, chooses sushi to steak and potatoes, and would rather drive than be a passenger. She is a Scorpio, though she doesn't go in for astrology or anything new age. She subscribes to cable television but rarely watches more than infomercials and General Hospital. She has a cleaning lady, a gardener, and a handyman. Her attendance at church is for funerals and weddings. Her secret pride and joy is a coin collection started by her late husband.
